Privacy Policy

Last Updated: January 2026

The Gist: PiP+ is a local-first browser extension. Your data belongs to you. We do not track your browsing history, sell your personal data, or view your video content. We only use minimal, non-personal data to improve product performance and stability.

1. Introduction

Welcome to PiP+ ("we", "our", "the Extension"). We understand that privacy is critical to you, which is why we have made "privacy protection" a core principle of our product design. This Privacy Policy is intended to detail how we handle your information when you use our Chrome extension and related services. By installing and using PiP+, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Data We Collect and How We Use It

As a local-first tool, most of PiP+'s data processing happens right on your device. The information we collect is extremely limited and falls into the following categories:

2.1 Locally Stored Data

This data is stored only locally in your browser and is never uploaded to our servers:

  • User Preferences: Such as your preferred PiP window size, position, opacity, playback speed, and danmaku toggle settings.
  • License Key: If you purchased the Pro version, your activation key is encrypted and stored locally to verify feature unlock status.
  • Usage Counters: Records the number of times you successfully opened PiP, used to display local milestone hints (e.g., "Used 100 times").

2.2 Anonymous Usage Data

To improve the product, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect fully anonymous telemetry data. This data contains no Personally Identifiable Information (PII):

  • Feature usage frequency (e.g., how many users used the "Speed Control" feature).
  • Error and crash reports (helping us fix bugs quickly).
  • Basic device environment (e.g., browser version, OS type, extension version).

Note: You can block network requests at any time in your browser's extension management page without affecting the core functionality of the extension.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

This is arguably the most important part of this policy. To address your concerns, we explicitly state:

  • No Browsing History:We do not care which websites you visit. The extension only activates its logic when a `<video>` tag is detected.
  • No Video Content:Whether you are watching a Netflix movie, a private video, or a corporate meeting recording, we cannot view, record, or transmit video frames or audio content.
  • No Personal Identifiable Information:We do not require your name, email, phone number, or home address. PiP+ works without any account registration.
  • No Cookies or Sessions:We do not read or store your login credentials or cookies for any websites (like YouTube, Bilibili).

4. Permissions Explained

Chrome may prompt you that the extension requires certain permissions during installation. Here are the genuine technical reasons why we need them:

PermissionReason for Use
activeTabAllows the extension to access the current tab only when you click the icon, to find video elements on the page and launch PiP.
scriptingUsed to inject necessary code into the page to sync subtitles, danmaku, and control bars to the PiP window.
storageSaves your preferences (like "Remember Window Size") in the browser's sync storage area to sync across devices.
host_permissionsWe need `<all_urls>` permission because PiP+ is designed to work universally on any website containing HTML5 video, not just specific ones.

5. Payment & Data Security

Regarding the purchase and activation of the Pro version:

  • Payment Processing: We do not process any payments directly. All transactions are handled by our authorized payment partner Creem.io securely. Your credit card information is submitted directly to payment processors (like Stripe), and our servers never touch this sensitive information.
  • Activation Verification: When verifying license, we send your license key to Creem.io API for verification. This process transmits only the key itself, with no other personal data.

6. Children's Privacy

PiP+ is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, and we will delete such data immediately.

7. Changes & Updates

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time as laws change or product features are updated. For significant changes, we will notify you via extension update notes or website announcements. Continuing to use the extension constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
